Television Audience Measurement research company AGB Nielsen Media Research has globally launched LiveRatings, their innovative system for TAM data delivery, in South Korea on the 9th July 2008. In the press meeting held in Seoul, DH Hwang, Managing Director of AGB Nielsen Media Research South Korea, stated that “the most advanced type of service can be provided thanks to superior technology of AGB Nielsen Media Research and the foundation of advanced internet and mobile infrastructure available in Korea”.
LiveRatings provides any time, any place, real-time minute-by-minute audience data for immediate programme evaluation. This means that data is available 1 minute after broadcasting, without the need for any separate Analysis Software. Until now, rating data was provided using the “over night” method where data is provided the next morning after collection of the rating data for the last 24 hours. The system uses AGB Nielsen Media Research’s digital peoplemeter TVM5 to collect the data of a panel compromised of 550 households in the Seoul region, applying CDMA and ultra high-speed internet transmission methodology. It is scheduled to expand the research area to metropolitan areas in the future.
We believe this system can appeal to two different groups of people: Firstly to the top management of TV stations as they are constantly anxious to understand the performance of their channel and that of their competitors. LiveRatings delivers just what they need - top line information in an immediate and mobile form.
The second group is those that invest in live events, and require immediate feedback on the program performance. People that are involved in talk shows, variety events, reality shows, live political debates, etc
In addition, AGB Nielsen Media Research is also gathering TV ratings by running a 2350 household panel nationwide (excluding Jeju Island).
